Seven agreements will be signed during Thai PM

The President’s Office has said that seven agreements on mutual cooperation between the two countries will be signed during Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra’s visit to the Maldives next week.

The President’s Office said in a statement issued tonight that Yingluck Shinawatra will call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed during her visit, from Saturday to Thursday.

“Seven agreements on mutual cooperation between the two countries will be also concluded during the visit. President Dr. Mohamed Waheed will host an Official Dinner in honour of the visiting Prime Minister.”

The Prime Minister will visit Sri Lanka tomorrow, prior to her visit to the Maldives.

In an interview, Thai Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom told Sri Lankan paper The Nation, that Thailand would forge closer cooperation with Maldives and Sri Lanka under the Thailand’s strategy to penetrate new markets.

According to a report by the Trade Negotiations Department, Sri Lanka is Thailand's fourth-largest trading partner in South Asia.
