Shiyam appointed as Chief of Defence Force

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has promoted Ahmed Shiyam of G. Mialanige to the rank of Major General and appointed him as the Chief of Defence Force.

The ceremony to present Ahmed Shiyam with the letter of appointment to the new post was held at the President’s Office this afternoon.

During the ceremony, the President advised Ahmed Shiyam to uphold the constitution and respect existing laws when carrying out his responsibilities as Chief of Defence Force. Shiyam was advised to pay special attention to the country’s defence, security and sovereignty when carrying out his responsibilities.

Chief of Defence Force Ahmed Shiyam held the post of Brigadier General up till today.
