Gayoom congratulates President Dr Waheed

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has congratulated the new President of Maldives Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.

In the letter sent to President Dr Waheed, Gayoom expressed his sincere congratulations to Dr Waheed on assuming the honorary post of the President of Maldives.

Gayoom who is currently on a personal visit to Malaysia, said in his letter that Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has assumed the post of President of Maldives amidst severe political turmoil in the country. He said that an educated, experienced and capable individual such as Dr Waheed assuming this post at a time like this is a promising development for the country’s future.

“Maldivian people are confident that, with the will of God, your education and experience will assist you in strengthening Islam and democratic principles in the country. We are confident that you will uphold the constitution, strengthen unity, restore peace, and work towards the development of the country,” Gayoom wrote in his letter.
