Man from Fares Maathoda, missing at sea for two weeks, to arrive in Maldives on Sunday

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that Mohamed Falah, 30, of Rosy Side in Gaafu Dhaalu Fares Maathoda, who went missing while out fishing on a dinghy, will arrive in Maldives on Sunday.

Falah was missing at sea for two weeks before he was rescued by a German vessel en route to Malaysia.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hassan Saeed said that President Dr Mohamed Waheed had contacted Falah yesterday over the phone and checked his condition, and advised the Foreign Ministry to arrange his return to Male’.

Saeed said that as per the president’s advice, the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia will arrange accommodation for him in Malaysia and his travel on Malaysia Airlines to Male’ on Sunday.

Falah was rescued about 900 miles away from Maldivian territory by the German vessel after two weeks at sea on a dinghy. MNDF had conducted search operations with the assistance of an Indian navy aircraft, without success.
