Cases related to High Court judges are being investigated because such cases have been filed: JSC

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has refuted accusations that the commission started investigating cases related to judges of High Court to try and obstruct the case filed to High Court by former President Mohamed Nasheed, questioning the legitimacy of the judges appointed to Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court.

JSC said in a statement that the cases being investigated by the commission regarding the judges of High Court had been filed by the judges of High Court.

JSC said that one case was filed by the chief judge of High Court on 16 May regarding the remaining judges, two cases were filed on the following day, and three cases were filed again two days later by the chief judge regarding the remaining judges.

In addition to this, a case against the chief judge was filed by the remaining judges on 20 May.

JSC said that a committee had been formed to investigate all these cases, and that the committee had held 24 meetings so far.

JSC said that the committee was working on obtaining statements from the people who filed the cases as well as the defendants.

JSC said that according to article 159 of the Constitution and article 22 of the JSC Act, it is part of JSC’s responsibility and duty to probe issues filed in relation to judges.
