Six people have applied for the position of the Civil Service Commission membership in answer to the call by the parliament to replace the Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, who currently sits as the president of the Commission.
Parliament revealed that six individuals have submitted their names for the position. The application period was from 11th till the 21st of last month. The Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions will next evaluate the names.
The names of the applicants will be announced by the parliament after being screened for criminal records and making certain that the applicants fit the criteria for the commission membership.
The Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions will call the applicants for interview, who will be reviewed and scored. The names of the candidates who score about 75 percentage point will be forwarded to the parliament floor for voting. The names will be voted in descending order of the scores received and the President will appoint the names approved by the parliament.
A motion to remove CSC President Mohamed Fahmy Hassan from the Commission was passed by the parliament earlier, after the Committee on Independent Commissions decided recommended to remove Fahmy on allegations of sexually harassing a coworker.
Supreme Court had then declared that the parliament’s decision to dismiss Fahmy was unconstitutional, after which Fahmy had resumed office. The matter of the Supreme Court ruling was reviewed by the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions, who decided on the basis that the ruling did not state that Fahmy can resume his office, the parliament shall appoint a new member to the commission to replace Fahmy.
