A Maldivian company has been commissioned for MVR 1.2 million to renew the carpets inside the main prayer hall in Islamic Centre.
Mohamed Didi, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs told Sun Online today a company Spectra-Concepts Private Limited has been commissioned to renew the carpets.
The carpets were last renewed 8 years ago.
Spectra-Concepts was hired on the 21st last month. Managing Director of Spectra-Concepts Mohamed Ashfaaq told Sun Online today that the company has started preliminary preparations for the project.
“We are preparing to change the carpets. Out highest priority would be to ensure that the carpets are laid such that the rows align [during prayer],” Ashfaaq said.
Ashfaq said that the company will start laying the carpets in 10 day’s time and that they hope to complete the project before the month of Ramazan. The carpets will be much better in quality compared to existing carpets, Ashafaq said.
Officially named Masjid-al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam, Islamic Centre is one of the central and largest mosques in the Maldives, an architectural landmark built in 1984.
