Acting Police Commissioner Abdulla Fairooz has said that the force that drives Maldivians right now should be national spirit, and not revenge.
In the statement given after assuming his post, he said in the current situation of the country, people should think about what is good for the nation.
“We need to set aside our emotions associated with politics and think about the future of our country. Revengeful practices will not benefit the country in any way in the current situation. It is every citizen’s responsibility to uphold the constitution and respect each other’s rights,” he said.
He said that all Maldivians should unite and move forward with the nation in order to sustain the country’s sovereignty and independence.
“We have to pay special attention to refrain from anything that may interfere with peace in the country. The Police will continuously work with sincerity towards the protection of peace and harmony in the country,” he said.
He also said that following the recent development of events, Police and MNDF will begin special activities tonight for the protection of peace in various parts of the country. Steps will be taken to protect state and public property.
“I assure Maldivians that the Police will work with integrity, justice, courage and professionalism. I also assure you that the Police will not deny the rights of any citizen as the result of a political wave,” he said.
