President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appointed Chief Superintendent Abdulla Fairooz as Acting Commissioner of Police, and Brigadier General Ahmed Shiyam as Acting Chief of Defence Force. The announcement regarding these appointments was made at a press conference held at MNDF tonight.
Acting Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Shiyam said that the defence forces are prepared to protect and serve the Maldivian people and that it will work towards upholding Islam and peace in the country.
“We ask all Maldivians to prioritize national harmony and uphold the laws of the constitution,” the Acting Chief of Defence Force said.
Shiyam said that the interests of the country should come before interests of individuals, and that the defence forces hope to get the assistance of Maldivians in this regard.
Acting Commissioner of Police Fairooz said that the past twenty days or so have been hectic with many new developments. He said that in the current situation of the country, people should prioritise the future of the country over political motives, and that revengeful practices will not benefit the country in any way in its current situation.
