President inaugurates water supply project for Hithadhoo

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has officially inaugurated a water supply project for Hithadhoo, Addu City today.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Waheed said that he is delighted that the people of Seenu Hithadhoo would start to receive clean drinking water. He said that the modern desalination system would provide safe drinking water to a number of households and that it was historic in the sense that such a large population, comparable to the size of the capital Male', has started to receive the service.

The government is working to provide safe and clean drinking water to all parts of Addu City, in addition to a proper sewerage system, the President said.

The President also initiated the remaining phase of the Hithadhoo road construction project. Speaking at the commencement ceremony, President Waheed said that the new phase includes the construction of 2.3 kilometers of road and that a work on a further 2.8 kilometers is planned to commence in January next year. He said that the all roads in Hithadhoo will be laid with asphalt concrete by the end of 2014.

President also appealed to the people to lend their cooperation in carrying out such projects.
