President advised to review salary structure of medical doctors

The cabinet has advised President Dr Mohamed Waheed to review the salary structure of medical doctors and to establish a new salary framework.

This recommendation was made after discussion on a paper presented by the Ministry of Health at the cabinet meeting held today.

The president was advised to include this change in the budget for 2014, and to implement the new framework from 1 January 2014.

The decision to review the salary structure was made after discussion on the challenges faced in bringing good doctors from the region to the Maldives. The members said that this problem can only be solved by making changes to the salaries.

They also discussed the measures that could be taken to develop the health sector.
