Parliament attendance report excludes Speaker of the Parliament

Parliament has published the attendance report for the members of parliament for this year’s first term without including the details of the Speaker of the Parliament.

The Parliament similarly neglected to include the records of the Speaker for last year’s first term’s attendance report, although they have included the details of the Speaker during the all other terms 2010, 2011 and 2012, except for the first term of each year.

Parliament has not yet revealed if the name was excluded due to technical fault, or whether it was done intentionally.

Parliament’s Secretary General Ahmed Mohamed said that he is not aware that the name of the Speaker Abdulla Shahid has been excluded from the report, and that he will not be able to comment before looking into the matter. He has since been unable to comment he is currently travelling abroad.

Attendance reports for two consecutive years show that Shahid had failed to attend 58 sessions of parliament out of a total of 184 sessions. Some parties have said that his absence was a result of his official trips abroad. He has also requested leave on a few days during the period.
