A woman has been arrested on suspicion of entering with a big bag and stealing from Jilbaab shops.
The police said that a 29-year-old woman was arrested yesterday at around 15:15 on suspicion of theft, and that the case is currently under investigation.
An official representing the management of Jilbaab said that two women were caught yesterday afternoon after they stole a big bag of goods from one Jilbaab shop located on Maaveyo Magu, and entered another shop to do the same. He said that the two people have been handed over to the police.
Another official representing Jilbaab said that the number of women stealing from their shops had increased greatly, and that items often stolen include fabrics, hijab accessories and undergarments.
The shops of Jilbaab are equipped with security cameras. The management of Jilbaab said that people who stole from their shops previously were forgiven and released; but now, with the increase in theft, they had made the decision to hand over the thieves to the police.
He further said that people who wear normal hijabs often cover their faces just to enter the shop and steal using big bags, and that the shop staff have been advised to be watchful of those covering their faces.
