Speaker of Parliament, Member of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Abdullah Shahid has said that JSC sent the letter requesting the High Court to expedite the case concerning the legitimacy of the Hulhumale’ Court bench, without consulting with the members of JSC.
Shahid said this in a letter sent in his capacity as the Speaker of Parliament, to President of JSC Adam Mohamed today.
In the letter, Shahid expressed concern that JSC sent a letter to High Court without prior discussion between JSC members.
Media Official of JSC Hassan Zaheen told Sun Online in an interview earlier that JSC had requested the High Court to expedite the case filed by Nasheed against the commission, and that it was not unusual for the commission to have made such a request.
Shahid further said that the letter sent by JSC mentions issues that should be brought up by JSC’s lawyer in court, and that it was not acceptable that the commission sent a letter which details the commission’s opinion on how a judge should act, when JSC is a body responsible for dealing with disciplinary issues of judges.
Meanwhile, former President Mohamed Nasheed, who filed the case to High Court, has also expressed concern over the letter sent by JSC to High Court.
