Civil servants have held a walk on the streets of Male’ to celebrate the International Labour Day.
The walk started at 06:00 this morning near the government office complex Velaanaage. It was participated by a number of senor government staff and heads of institutions and civil servants, although the event did not attract a very large crowd. Former President of the Civil Service Commission Mohamed Fahmy Hassan also participated in the event.
Voicing out slogans and holding placards calling for the protection of worker’s rights, the crowd walked west on Medhuziyaarai Magu, turned south on Chaandhaanee Magu, went east on Majeedhee Magu, and concluded their walk in Artificial Beach.
Speaking after the event, Vice President of the Civil Service Commission Ahmed Hassan Didi said that civil servants face a number of challenges today and that the commission is working on overcoming these challenges. He said that the professionalism of the civil servants must be ensured, to make certain that they are able to work with any government that comes to power.
Civil Service Commission has planned a number of activities to mark Labour Day this year, including an event for the President to meet with civil servants, and for all employees to attend office in traditional national attire tomorrow.
