Will facilitate production of chicken and chicken eggs to eleminate their import: Gasim

Presidential candidate and leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim has said that a JP government will facilitate the production of chicken and chicken eggs in the Maldives, and in turn, eliminate the import of the products.

Speaking at a campaign event held in Alif Alif Thoddoo last night, Gasim said that the party will aim to reduce the import of chicken and chicken eggs to the Maldives, and alternatively increase their production to achieve self-sustenance.

“In our government, God willing, to an extent that Maldives would not have to import chicken meat and chicken eggs, we will make Maldives a sustainable country in terms of quality. The purpose would be (to achieve) the availability of fresh chicken and a choice of frozen chicken, but to maintain their quality and taste to a different level,” said Gasim.

He noted that the country receives chicken and chicken products after many days of slaughter. He said that the quality of chicken will dramatically improve during a JP government.

He said that it will help the country retain foreign currency.

He also noted that there is difficulty in obtaining cheap land for farming and that a Jumhoory Party government will solve the problem as well. He said that he plans to present a bill to the parliament asking to facilitate easier ways for farmers to obtain cultivatable lands.
