Boy goes into coma after being hit in the head by basketball

A Majeediyya School student has gone into a coma after being hit in the head by the ball while playing basketball in Hulhumale’ this morning.

Sun Online has been told that the victim is being treated in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGHM), but efforts are under way to send him to Sri Lanka as he is not being given adequate treatment in IGMH.

The person who spoke to Sun Online said that the earliest the boy can be taken to Sri Lanka is tonight, and that he is currently connected to a ventilator.

“The boy can only be sent to Sri Lanka tonight at around 20:00. By the time they reach the hospital it might be 23:00. A lot of time is being wasted in the hospital here. He is not being given any kind of treatment. It takes so much time to take him there and start treatment,” he said.

IGMH Media Official Zeenath Ali Habeeb said that the boy is being treated in the Emergency Room in IGMH, and that work is ongoing to send him abroad.

The person who spoke to Sun Online said that the incident took place this morning when the boy was hit in the head by the ball while playing basketball in Hulhumale’, where he lives. He was knocked down on impact and vomited blood when he got up and started walking.
