President of Gaafu Alifu Kanduhulhudhoo Council, Rifau Rasheed has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an elderly person.
This has been confirmed by the Kanduhulhudhoo Council.
The police said that four people were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assault in Kanduhulhudhoo, and that their detention period had been extended to five days by the court.
A Kanduhulhudhoo islander told Sun Online that the assault took place when a 65 year old person, while on his way to the mosque, joked with a woman with disabilities who happened to be a relative of Rifau Rasheed. Rifau Rasheed later went with a group and attacked the 65 year old while he was resting on a joali (string chair).
