Driving licence suspended for ten years after accident results in victim

The Criminal Court has ruled to suspend a man’s driving licence for ten years, following an accident wherein the man on a speeding motorcycle collided with a pedestrian crossing the road, resulting in the pedestrian’s death.

The accident took place on 4 April 2009, when Abdullah Mulail Mohamed of Kondeyge, Gaaf Alifu Kondey, who was speeding on his motorcycle, hit Adam Ali of Pailam, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, who was crossing the road near Sultan Park on Medhuziyaaraiy Magu.

Adam Ali suffered serious head injuries including skull fractures, and died on the following day while being treated in IGM Hospital.

The Criminal Court ordered today to suspend Abdullah Mulail Mohamed’s driving licence for 10 years, as the records of IGM Hospital show that Adam Ali died due to the injuries sustained in the accident.

The court said that Adam Ali’s family had stated that they did not want compensation for Adam Ali’s death; thus, there are no grounds to ask Abdullah Mulail Mohamed for compensation for Adam Ali’s death.
