Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has commenced the party’s fourth national congress.
The congress was launched by the party’s leader and presidential candidate Ahmed Thasmeen Ali in Dharubaaruge this afternoon.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Thasmeen said that congress will push the party’s activities to gain new momentum, and that it will be a productive and successful assembly.
“Activities will increase due to the national congress. This national congress will be a productive and successful assembly,” Thasmeen said.
The beginning of the session saw the election of Dr. Ibrahim Hassan as the President to preside over the congress, and Mizna Shareef and MP Ahmed Mohamed as the congress vice presidents.
First order of the session was the debate on the amendments to the party’s general regulations, to which nine amendments were proposed.
The congress will also see elections for the two deputy leaders of the parties, seats that are currently vacant.
The party has said that about 700 representatives from different parts of the country are predicted to participate in this year’s party congress.
