The police have returned the money seized from Adam Naseer of H. Reendhooge, who has been acquitted by the court after being prosecuted for drug trafficking.
A Police Media Official said today that the money seized from Adam Naseer had been returned to him. No further information could be obtained.
The Civil Court ruled earlier that the police do not have to return the initial MVR 6 million that was seized from Ali Naseer’s home, as this money was found at a crime scene.
Ali Naseer had filed a case against the police to reclaim MVR 36,200 and MVR 86,000 seized later from his house and from his wife’s handbag.
The Civil Court found Adam Naseer not guilty of the charges pressed against him by the State, of possession of illicit drugs with the intention of selling and possession of medical drugs without a doctor’s prescription with the intention of using them. The court also ruled that there was not sufficient evidence to prove that the large amount of money found in his home, H. Reendhooge, and his wife’s house in Addu was obtained through drug trafficking.
