The police have discovered large amounts of alcohol on a safari boat located in Hulhumale’ harbour and arrested two people.
The police said that the two people taken under arrest are a 44-year-old Maldivian and a 39-year-old foreign national.
The Police Media Official said that the 44-year-old person was arrested at around 9:45 am today near Maya Clinic. The operation was conducted following a tip-off indicating that the suspect was involved in trading alcohol.
The Police Media Official said that three bottles of alcohol were discovered in a bag carried by the suspect after he was arrested.
The police said that the 39-year-old was arrested in a safari boat in Hulhumale’ harbour, by following up on information provided by the 44-year-old.
Items found on the boat include 147 bottles of alcohol and 498 cans of beer, all brought in illegally.
The case is under investigation by the police.
