Umar Naseer, who recently lost to Abdullah Yameen in the Primary Election of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), has said that PPM would be ‘destroyed’ if he is removed from the party. Umar said that he does not believe that PPM would do such a thing under the leadership of its current president, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Speaking to reporters outside Bank of Ceylon tonight upon his return from a private visit to Singapore, Umar said that he had not done anything worthy of a public apology, and that any action taken against him by the party’s council could bring about an ‘earthquake’ within the party.
Umar said that PPM was created under his and former President Gayoom’s leadership.
Umar reiterated his suspicions against Abdullah Yameen, and said that the votes of the Primary were rigged and that he witnessed Yameen meeting with the minor involved in the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali.
He said that all the allegations he made against Yameen earlier, are true.
Umar said that regardless of the events that have transpired, he is willing to work with Yameen following Yameen’s victory in the Primary. He however said that his support would depend on whether Yameen’s allies are ‘honest’.
He said that his supporters would work to ensure success for the PPM candidate at the Presidential Election; however, he as well as his supporters would prioritise the interest of the nation if the PPM Presidential Candidate’s ‘crew’ are corrupt.
Umar was greeted by a large number of supporters as he returned to Male’ tonight.
