Azima to be transferred to Ministry of Gender

Government has decided to transfer Attorney General Azima Shakoor to head the Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights. The news has been confirmed to Sun by a government official.

An official also said that Deputy Attorney General Aishath Bisham is to be appointed as the new Attorney General.

Azima Shakoor has been heading the Ministry of Gender since the previous Gender Minister Dhiyana Saeed was removed from office.

When Azima was asked if she was aware if she is being transferred to the Ministry of Gender, Azima said that she has only heard the news from the media, and did not give any further details.

Sun is also aware that Jumhoory Party’s proposition, the party’s Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim is also to be appointed as the new Minister of Transport and Communication today.

The changes for the three senior government positions will take place today.

The posts of Minister of Gender and Minister of Transport have both been vacant since former Gender Minister Dhiyana Saeed and former Transport Minister Dr. Ahmed Shamheed were removed from their posts.
