No pressure from Vice President

Deputy Leader of MDP Parliamentary Group and Dhiddhoo MP Ahmed Sameer has said that MDP is not pressured by the statements made by the Vice President during his meetings with opposition groups.

He said that it will not affect MDP’s efforts to restore justice in the judicial system.

In a press conference held at the MDP Office today, Sameer said that if the Vice President alleges that the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed is detained illegally, he should also indicate which part of the law states that the Judge should be released.

“If the Vice President is saying that the Judge should be released, he should also indicate which part of the law supports that claim,” Sameer said.

Vice President of MDP and Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmee also said that MDP’s work will not be affects by any statements made by the Vice President.

“We advise the Vice President to protect himself from efforts made by opposition groups to include him in their crimes against the government,” Alhan said.

Opposition groups held a meeting with the Vice President last Monday night as part of the protests sparked by the arrest of Judge Abdulla. The Vice President stated during this meeting that Judge Abdulla in detained in violation of the constitution.

Chief Justice, High Court and HRCM have called for the release of the arrested Judge.

Several cases regarding this issue have been submitted to JSC, who have decided to take steps against the arrest of Judge Abdulla who is currently held in custody by the military in the island of Girifushi.
