Umar asked to make public apology before tonight

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has asked Umar Naseer to make a public apology before the party’s rally scheduled for tonight.

PPM said that Umar has now been officially notified of this request.

Spokesperson of PPM Ahmed Mahloof said at a press conference held at Mookai Hotel today that Umar had been asked to make a public apology following the baseless allegations he made against the party’s presidential candidate last night.

“It had been agreed that both candidates and the party’s president would attend the first rally after the primary. After this decision was in place, Umar met with his supporters and told a bunch of lies. And he has urged his supporters not to attend tonight’s rally. So the party’s council has decided unanimously, to ask Umar to make a public apology before the party’s unity rally tonight,” he said.

Mahloof said that any action can be taken against Umar following his actions last night, and that some groups had decided to file a case to the police in relation to Umar’s comments.

Mahloof said that out of Umar’s supporters, only PPM Youth Wing’s President Ibrahim Nazim attended today’s council meeting, and that Nazim also left the meeting after a short while.

Umar’s Spokesperson Abdullah Sinaan told Sun Online that he had not been informed of any such notification, and that a decision can only be made after Umar is officially notified.
