Umar will not participate in tonight

Umar Naseer’s team has announced that Umar will not participate in tonight’s Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) function. Umar Naseer competed for the party's presidential ticket and faced defeat during the primary election held last Saturday.

Umar Naseer’s campaign manager and PPM council member Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) said that Umar decided not to attend tonight’s PPM function because Yameen’s team members had tried to obstruct the event held by Umar last night.

He said that efforts by Yemen’s team to obstruct last night’s event were against PPM’s party regulations and that it is complete unacceptable. Saleem said that the party’s regulations do not bar Umar from holding events with his supporters although he has been defeated in last Saturday’s primary.

Saleem said that Yameen’s team has been spreading rumours, saying that the purpose of Umar’s event last night was to cause dissent within the party, but said that Umar himself should have the right to meet his supporters following his defeat.
