Stabbed soldier is doing alright: IGMH

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has said that the soldier who was stabbed last night is now in good condition.

The soldier was stabbed in Lonuziyaarai Magu near imperial last night.

IGMH Media Official Zeenath Ali Habeeb confirmed that the 22 year old man is now doing alright, but said that she is unable to disclose more information regarding the case.

The man was stabbed around 10:26 pm last night. It was reported that he received injuries to his head, back and arm.

An official from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) identified the soldier as one Private Ibrahim Areef, and that he was one of the body guards assigned to protect Inguraidhoo MP Hamdhoon Hameed. They said that Areef was attacked while he was off duty.

It is not yet clear if he was stabbed due to a personal vendetta, or whether it was related to his service in the military.
