Temporary results of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) presidential primary shows the party’s Parliamentary Group Leader Abdulla Yameen to have won the party's ticket to compete in the presidential elections, with a majority of 63 percent.
The results show that from a total of 20,795 ballots cast, 13,096 ballots were n favour of Abdulla Yameen, which calculates to 62.97 percent of total votes.
PPM former Interim Deputy Leader Umar Naseer earned 7,450 votes, 35.82 percent of the ballots cast. A total of 249 ballots,1.97 percent, were deemed void.

PPM office has announced that 141 ballot boxes have been counted so far, and that the temporary results show that Abdulla Yameen is leading with 9473 votes and Umar Naseer has earned a total of 5197 votes

PPM elections committee chairman Mohamed Tholal has said that the results for all boxes will be announced by 9:00 pm tonight, and that the results so far show that no one candidate has the chance to win by a large margin.
“[I] Do not believe that any candidate can win by a large margin. The results will be certain once the 5000 votes that were casted in Male’ has been counted” – PPM election committee chairman Mohamed Tholal

PPM has announced that the total votes earned by Yameen currently stands at 10,321 votes and total votes earned by Umar Naseer stands at 5,858 votes. There are 20 ballot boxes left uncounted, which contains approximately 4000 votes.

Temporary results so far shows Abdulla Yameen to have earned 11,221 votes while Umar Naseer to have earned 6,393 votes. 154 ballot boxes counted with 13 boxes remaining.

According to the ballots counted so far, Yameen has earned 12,195 votes. Umar Naseer has earned 6,742 votes. There are 6 ballot boxes uncounted so far, containing approximately 2000 votes.

Umar Naseer has announced that he accepts defeat. Meeting with supporters in his campaign office, Umar said that he accepts defeat and that he will meet with Yameen soon to congratulate him on winning the election.
