Abdulla Yameen has said that he is “willing to make whatever sacrifice it may require to win the 2013 election”. Yameen successfully won the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) presidential primary ticket in the party presidential primary election held today.

In a press statement thanking his supporters the victory, Yameen called upon his rival Umar Naseer's supporters to not lose heart and continue to work with him towards establishing a PPM government.

“I would like to advice my colleague Umar and all of his supporters to not lose heart and work with me to establish a PPM government, to roll up our sleeves and to work with me, with new zeal and courage,” Yameen stated.

He said that PPM members have handed him the presidential ticket with trust, and that he will make sure to safeguard the trust they have bestowed upon him. He said that now is that the time for everybody to join hands and work together towards winning the presidential election.

“As you must know, now is the time that the Progressive Party of Maldives must work together, with great effort and enthusiasm to win the 2013 presidential election. I would like to take this opportunity to note that I am willing to make whatever sacrifice that it may require to win the 2013 election,” stated Yameen.

Yameen also stated that his first priority after this success would be to increase the current party membership by two folds.

Yameen concluded his statement by thanking former president Maumoon for the efforts he has made to take the party forward.“I would like to sincerely thank him from the bottom of my heart,” he stated.
