Maumoon decides not to vote in presidential primary

Former President and President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has decided that he will not cast his vote for the party’s ongoing presidential primary elections.

In a tweet made by the former president today, Maumoon said that in order to stay neutral in this primary, he had decided not to cast his vote, but said that he requests all eligible PPM voters to cast their vote.

While Maumoon has decided not to vote during this primary, his children had publicly declared support for their uncle and presidential primary candidate Abdulla Yameen. Maumoon had earlier made a statement that his children are now mature adults and that their political decisions are of their own accord.
