The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for severe weather conditions across parts of the country, covering the region from Kaafu Atoll to Laamu Atoll.

The alert is in effect from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, with forecasters warning of torrential rain and thunderstorms. Winds are expected to reach up to 45 mph in thunderclouds, creating hazardous conditions at sea.

The MET Office said the general weather outlook for the coming days remains unstable, with scattered showers and heavy rainfall likely in several areas. Surface winds are expected to blow from the southwest and west at speeds between 10 and 20 mph. Seas are forecast to be moderately rough, becoming increasingly rough in the afternoon, with wave heights estimated between four and seven feet.

Authorities have urged seafarers and the public to exercise caution as incidents at sea tend to increase during the southwest monsoon. The MET Office advised travellers and boat operators to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of strong winds and heavy rain.
