Latest statistics from the Tourism Ministry show that more than 150,000 tourists visited the Maldives in September.
According to the data, a total of 150,764 tourists arrived in the Maldives in September, marking a slight 0.2 percent decline from the 151,114 arrivals recorded during the same month last year. The average daily arrival rate stood at 5,872, while the highest number of arrivals in a single day was recorded on September 26, when 6,284 tourists entered the country.
Year-to-date tourist arrivals have reached 1,603,021, representing a 3.4 percent decrease compared to the 1,659,031 arrivals recorded during the corresponding period last year.
China remains the leading source market for Maldivian tourism, with 300,977 visitors arriving from the country so far this year. Russia ranks second with 229,236 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 119,968 visitors. Germany has contributed 99,062 arrivals, while 98,039 tourists have arrived from Italy.
In terms of accommodation, resorts remain the preferred choice among tourists, having hosted 1,158,404 visitors so far this year. Guesthouses have accommodated 345,220 visitors, while 36,106 tourists have stayed in hotels and 29,679 have opted for safari vessels.
Velana International Airport (VIA) remains the country’s main gateway for international visitors, facilitating the arrival of 1,569,214 tourists so far this year. Gan International Airport has recorded 5,606 international tourist arrivals, followed by Maafaru International Airport with 5,032, Hanimaadhoo International Airport with 3,331, Maamigili Airport with 2,971, and Dhaalu Airport with 1,284.
