Rainy weather and rough seas as school midterm break begins

As schools begin a week-long midterm break on Thursday, the Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecast rainy conditions for today and the upcoming weekend.

Met Office told Sun that widespread rainfall and unsettled weather conditions are expected in various parts of the country over the next three days.

While sea conditions are expected to remain relatively calm over the next 24 hours, the Met Office has warned that wind speeds are likely to increase from tomorrow, resulting in rougher seas.

As the anticipated weather conditions are associated with the Southwest Monsoon, authorities have urged commuters and seafarers to exercise caution while travelling by sea.

The mid-term break typically sees a significant increase in domestic travel, with schools scheduled to resume on September 20^th.

The warning comes amid a number of maritime accidents reported earlier this year during periods of adverse weather conditions.
