The installation of the final segment connecting Male' and Villimale' under the Thilamale Bridge project commenced this morning.

To provide an update on the progress, the project's contractor, Afcons, facilitated a site visit for media personnel today to share detailed information regarding the ongoing work.

The commencement of this phase marks a significant milestone, as it will complete the superstructure of the bridge section between Male' and Villimale'.

According to Afcons, following the connection of this segment, the project will move towards installing railings, asphalt laying, and other finishing works. However, the company noted that completing all these remaining tasks will require further time.

Regarding the latest project statistics, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure stated last month that 90.4 percent of the total 1,222 segments required for the bridge deck have been cast. The Ministry further revealed that 72.9 percent of these segments have already been installed.

The physical connection of Male' and Villimale' via the bridge is expected to resolve longstanding transportation challenges and provide a seamless travel link between the two islands.

This development is highly anticipated by the residents of Villimale' and the wider Greater Male' region.

Afcons maintains that there is no room for doubt regarding the quality of the Thilamale Bridge, a project valued at approximately seven billion Rufiyaa, asserting that the construction adheres to the highest engineering standards.

Spanning a total length of approximately seven kilometers, this vital infrastructure project will link Male', Villimale', Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi.

The bridge features two lanes for vehicular traffic in each direction, with a dedicated pedestrian walkway on one side and a specialized corridor for utility services, such as electricity and water, on the other.
