The State Trading Organization (STO) has launched the V Scan, a portable ultrasound scanner developed by GE Healthcare.
The devices were launched by STO CEO and Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim and GE Healthcare South Asia Sales Head Jagdish Babu at a special ceremony held at Hotel Jen on Wednesday.
According to the STO Healthcare team, the newly introduced pocket-sized scan models will enable the delivery of scan services outside clinic consultation rooms, bringing diagnostics as close to the patient as possible. They said this presents a major opportunity to expand scanning services to small islands in an island nation like Maldives.
Designed with state-of-the-art technology, the models can be easily connected to Apple and Android phones as well as laptops. The scanned images can be shared with other parties in the DICOM standard.
GE Healthcare is a popular brand among radiologists and is already widely used in hospitals across the country. STO is the authorized distributor of the brand in Maldives. According to STO, its biomedical team has trained and deployed engineers specializing in each of GE Healthcare’s modalities to strengthen and sustain after-sales service. Among them is a team of certified engineers for modalities such as MRI, CT, mammography and ultrasound, and the company is particularly proud to have local female engineers in this team.
The device was launched on Wednesday as part of STO’s efforts to improve the healthcare sector in Maldives and its continued work to bring innovative products to the people of Maldives.
