Maldives’ first smart studio launched by Habeys, featuring geo-fencing and facial recognition

Habeys Boduberu Group has reopened its studio as the Maldives’ first smart studio, introducing a fully automated, state-of-the-art facility designed with advanced technology and modern features.

The opening ceremony was attended by Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, Deputy Mayor, and sponsors of Habeys. The upgraded studio marks a major milestone for the group, integrating smart systems across lighting, cooling, security, and energy management.

According to Ibrahim Mamdhooh (Mamdhu), founding member, group manager, and chief designer of the project, the studio’s smart system detects a person approaching from 300 meters away using geo-fencing technology powered by satellite data through Google Maps. Once detected, the studio automatically adjusts its temperature to the optimal level based on outdoor conditions. When the door is unlocked, the staircase lights activate on their own, guiding visitors inside.

The lighting system can be controlled through voice commands using Apple’s Siri, allowing users to change both color and temperature of the lights.

Mamdhu said the studio is equipped with an intelligent backup system that immediately detects power outages and switches to power-saving mode. During this time, the AC and coolers turn off, giving users approximately one hour to save ongoing work.  

The backup system includes a 240-volt battery with solar capability, ensuring uninterrupted operation.

The studio’s security system uses facial recognition to identify individuals entering the premises and sends notifications to the owners’ phones when unfamiliar faces are detected.  

“Human presence sensors” automatically shut down systems when the studio is empty, while entry and exit logs are stored for up to three months.  

Additionally, radar technology can detect a person hiding within 10 seconds.

Habeys founder and Managing Director Ali Shifau (Ayya) said the studio’s vocal booth and recording facilities have been upgraded to the latest professional standards. The studio now offers:

• podcast production  

A Bose-model theater system has been installed for Habeys members, and a dedicated warehouse has been built for cultural activities and drum storage.

Speaking at the opening, Ooredoo Chief Commercial Officer Hussain Niyaz praised the studio’s advanced smart systems. He noted that some of the technology available at Habeys Studio is not even available in the Ooredoo Building, highlighting the innovation behind the project.

A presentation showcased the group’s journey in transforming Habeys Studio from a small warehouse into a technologically advanced, aesthetically designed smart studio. The video also thanked Ayya for his dedication in bringing the vision to life.

Ayya said the studio is open to anyone wishing to create music.
