The Elections Commission (EC) has decided not to accept membership forms submitted by political parties until the Supreme Court makes a decision on the case filed in relation to the Political Party Act.
The commission said today that it had decided not to process any membership forms submitted before the ratification of the Political Party Bill, until the Supreme Court makes a decision on the case filed by the State.
The EC has also said that funds provided by the State will be released to political parties which have not yet received these funds, after the Supreme Court makes its decision.
The political parties that were removed from the commission’s registry following the ratification of the Political Party Bill by the President, have been re-included in its registry. The EC said that a decision on these parties will also be made after the Supreme Court issues its ruling on the case.
