Majority of MDP’s ministerial questions target Housing Minister Muthalib

Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib has been revealed as the cabinet minister most frequently questioned by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary members.

Statistics released by North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudoo) show that MDP members have submitted 258 notices seeking to question cabinet ministers. Of these, 180 notices were directed at the eight ministers who received the largest share of parliamentary inquiries.

Among them, Minister Muthalib was served 56 notices requesting explanations on matters related to housing and infrastructure projects, the highest number recorded for any cabinet minister and well above the figures for his counterparts.

Followed by Minister Muthalib were former Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, who was served 26 notices, and Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, who was served 22. Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu was served 20 notices, while Finance Minister Hassan Zareer was served 19. 

The figures further indicate that Home Minister Ali Ihusaan was served 18 notices, Health Minister Geela Ali 10, and Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed nine.

According to Kudoo, the notices largely seek information and clarification on constituency-level development initiatives as well as broader government policies. The data also reflects the prominence of housing-related issues among the concerns raised by opposition lawmakers in Parliament.
