Male' and Hanimaadhoo record hotter-than-normal temperatures on Monday

The north and central regions experienced hotter-than-normal temperatures on Monday, the Maldives Meteorological Service has said.

According to the Met Office, temperatures reached 37 degrees Celsius in H.Dh. Hanimaadhoo. In Male' City, the temperature remained at 37 degrees Celsius from early afternoon until 14:00, while Hanimaadhoo peaked at 37.1 degrees Celsius later in the afternoon.

Under weather standards, temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius are considered hotter than normal, while temperatures above 39 degrees Celsius fall under the category of “very hot.”

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has already issued a heat advisory, urging the public to take special precautions during the ongoing heatwave. Infants, the elderly, pregnant women and those who work outdoors for extended periods should be especially careful between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, when the sun is at its peak.

HPA advises drinking plenty of water, wearing light and cool clothing, and avoiding outdoor activity during the hottest hours unless absolutely necessary. People are also urged to seek medical attention immediately if they feel unwell due to the heat.
