President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that no parking will be allowed in the section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu that is now nearing completion under the ongoing road modernisation works. The President made the remarks during The Pulse podcast, where he addressed public concerns and outlined the Government’s plans for improving Male's road network.
He said the newly developed stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be opened next week, noting that the upgraded road will significantly ease traffic flow in the area. However, he confirmed that the previous roadside parking available along the section will be discontinued once the road is opened.
Instead, motorists will be required to use the newly dredged parking zone.
“The parking that was previously available in this finishing section is being replaced by the externally dredged area. We have dredged a separate, fairly large section. It will accommodate about 500 motorcycles. Once it opens, you can no longer park on the old roadside from Nasandhura to Izzuddin Jetty,” President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said.

The President added that the change will make driving along the outer road much smoother. He said the plan includes planting trees on both sides of the road to enhance the area’s appearance and create a more pleasant environment for motorists and pedestrians.
He noted that once the current section is completed, redevelopment will begin on the remaining stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, from the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area to Rasfannu. Describing it as the most deteriorated part of the outer road, he said the reconstruction will greatly improve connectivity to the market area, commercial district and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Male' continues to face severe congestion due to the high number of vehicles and longstanding complaints over inadequate parking space. The President said construction of two multi-storey parking buildings in the city will begin this year as part of the Government’s broader strategy to address parking shortages.
Last week, the President also established a special office dedicated to resolving traffic issues in Male'.
