Male' City Council has decided to offer free venues for wedding receptions to newlyweds.
The decision was made during the Council’s official meeting held on Wednesday, where members agreed to formulate the criteria and rules for providing the service. The opportunity will be opened once the guidelines are finalised and announced.
The Council resolved to allocate halls or public squares free of charge for newlyweds, a move that will reduce revenue for the agency, which currently earns significant income by renting out spaces for such events.
Lonuziyaarai Park, one of Male' City’s most popular wedding destinations, is operated by the Council and is known for its high rental fees.
Hundreds of weddings take place in Male' City every month, and many families struggle to afford the costs of hosting a reception.
The Council’s decision is expected to provide major financial relief to young couples starting their lives together.
This initiative also fulfills a key campaign pledge made to youth by Mayor Adam Azim and several councillors.
In another context, the government is working on several fronts to increase the popularion of the country, which is paramount to development.
