President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, following the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Amir of Qatar.
In his condolence message, President Muizzu expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, describing his leadership as instrumental in transforming Qatar into a nation of global prominence. The President stated that the former Amir's exemplary statesmanship, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the progress of his people, as well as the advancement of the wider Arab and Islamic world, would be remembered for generations. He further noted that Sheikh Hamad's enduring legacy of peace, development, and generosity would continue to inspire future generations.
The President also highlighted the former Amir's significant personal contributions to the development of the Maldives, including the launch of Qatar Airways operations in the country and the establishment of key institutions such as Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School and Masjid Al Sheikh Qasim Bin Al Thani, both of which continue to serve the Maldivian people.

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, President Muizzu conveyed his deepest condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim, the Royal Family, and the people of the State of Qatar during this time of profound grief.
The President concluded his message by praying to Almighty Allah to grant the former Amir eternal peace and the highest ranks of Jannah, and to bestow strength and patience upon His Highness Sheikh Tamim and the Royal Family as they mourn this great loss.

The Father Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 74. He served as the Amir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is widely regarded as a key architect of the nation's transformation into a global economic and diplomatic power.
During his reign, Qatar experienced significant economic, social, and cultural development, strengthening its standing within the international community.
He also oversaw major economic investments and expanded the country's international partnerships, while guiding Qatar's emergence as the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas.
