Airport civil servants request for increase in food allowance

The civil service employees of Male’ International Airport have sent a petition addressed to President of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, requesting an increase in their food allowance.

The petition signed by 107 airport civil service employees states that they work at the airport on shift basis, and receive MVR 60 per day as food allowance as part of the allowance provided to employees working outside their home island.

They noted that MVR 60 per day is not an adequate amount for food allowance considering the present prices of food available at the airport.

It was further highlighted in the petition that the price of food has changed following the imposition of taxes such as GST, and that changes should be made to allowances based on the given circumstances at a given time; and thus requested for an increase in the food allowance provided to airport civil servants.

Copies of the petition have been sent to Finance Ministry, Health Ministry, Defence Ministry and Fisheries Ministry.
