Statistics published by the Maldives Police Anti‑Scam Centre show that fewer scam cases were reported in June compared to May.
According to the figures released on Monday, 122 scam cases were reported in June, 35 fewer than the number recorded in May.
The amount of money lost to scams also fell. While MVR 2.27 million was reported lost in May, losses in June dropped to MVR 914,698.
Police said MVR 598,678 was recovered in June. A total of 87 cases were solved last month, with recoveries made in 34 of those cases.
As usual, the highest number of scam cases reported last month were linked to online businesses, with 74 cases recorded. This was followed by 13 cases of identity-related fraud and seven cases of money-laundering-related scams.
Police have previously stated that more than MVR 33 million has been lost to scams in over 2,700 cases reported nationwide since last year.
