Duo arrested in smash-and-grab burglary at Male’ hardware store

Two men have been arrested in connection with a burglary at a hardware store on Hithahfinivaa Magu in Malé, where they gained entry by smashing the store's glass.

The suspects have been identified as Ahmed Nasru, 46, of Fairy, Gn. Fuvahmulah, and Faris Ali Shareef, 35, of Hithahfinivaage, Sh. Lhaimagu.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the suspects were arrested under a court order on Saturday and have been remanded in custody for 15 days upon presentation before the court for a remand hearing.

The Police detailed that the burglary was reported last Saturday. The suspects were identified through CCTV footage, leading to their arrest. The Police have also recovered the stolen rolls of copper wire, which have since been returned to their rightful owner.

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.

Theft and related offences continue to be a major concern across the Greater Malé Area. Statistics publicized by the Police shows that theft remains the highest recorded crime this year, with 1,783 cases recorded to date.
