The Maldives on Tuesday called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories and East Jerusalem.

Ambassador Dr. Salma Rasheed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to Geneva, delivered the national statement at the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.

In her statement, Dr. Salma, speaking on behalf of the Government of Maldives, strongly condemned the Israeli military operations against the Palestinian people and the obstruction of humanitarian aid.

The Maldives also urged Israel to fully comply with its obligations under international law and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure. The statement further called for the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The statement added: “Israel continues to flagrantly violate international law, and the international community must work to end its culture of impunity and hold it accountable.”

The Maldives renewed its call for creating conditions conducive to a just, lasting and peaceful resolution to the Palestinian conflict, and stressed the need to uphold the Palestinian people’s right to self‑determination.

Concluding the statement, the Maldives reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ending Israel’s illegal actions and supporting the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
