Trial hearing for charges against former Chief of Defence Force Moosa Ali Jaleel for the illegal detention of Criminal Court judge Abdulla Mohamed has been scheduled for tomorrow, 17th March 2013.
An official from the Judiciary Media Unit said that Jaleel has been charged under 81 of the Penal Code for detaining a person who has not committed a crime, and said that the hearing will be held 16:00 tomorrow evening. The chit summoning Moosa Ali Jaleel to the court has now been sent, said the media unit official.
Trials for all other people carrying charges for the illegal detention of the Criminal Court judge has already begun except for the trial of Moosa Ali Jaleel. Former Minister of Defence Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleygefaanu, Brigadier General (Rtd) Ibrahim Mohamed Didi and Colonel Ziyad have all denied charges regarding for the detention of the judge.
State presented former Police Commission Ahmed Faseeh and Deputy Police Commissioner Ismail Athif as witnesses against Tholhath during his last hearing.
A second hearing for Brigadier General (Rtd) Ibrahim Mohamed Didi is to be held within the month. Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court said that statements from witnesses presented by the State will be heard during the proceeding.
Colonel Ziyad had raised a procedural issue during his hearing, accusing the Prosecutor General of not employing equal grounds when raising charges. The Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court judges bench has said that they will decided on the procedural issue during the next trial hearing.
