Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), who won Saturday’s by‑election for the Hithadhoo North constituency, will be sworn in on Monday.
Sodiq secured the vacant Addu Hithadhoo North seat with 1,375 votes, while former Hithadhoo Moolekede Councilor Ahmed Saeed (Soda) received 1,313 votes.
The parliamentary office said the swearing‑in ceremony will take place at 8:30 am on Monday.
Sodiq will take his oath on the same day the sittings scheduled for this week have been postponed to.
His swearing‑in will bring the number of MDP MPs to 13. The ruling PNC currently holds 74 seats in parliament.
The Hithadhoo North seat became vacant after former MP Mohamed Sinan (Sina) lost his seat.
On April 12, the Supreme Court ruled that he and several others had lost their parliamentary seats for failing to repay a MVR 3.8 million loan taken from Maldives Islamic Bank.
