Winds ripped roofs off at least two homes in Addu City on Sunday, as the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as the Hulhangu Monsoon, unleashed heavy rain and strong winds.
The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said that soldiers were helping repair the damage after strong winds teared off the roofs of two homes in the Hithadhoo district of Addu – Hulhudhu Aage and Orcamliva.
Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar told Sun that the incident took place amid heavy rain overnight.
It came as several islands in the south reported flooding due to heavy rain.
MNDF states it assisted in dewatering efforts in Feydhoo district of Addu, as well as GDh. Madaveli.
The incidents come amid widespread rain across the Maldives as the Hulhangu Monsoon settles in.
